National Irrigation Board was commissioned to support irrigation programmes such as Galana/ Kulalu Food Security Project which provided water storage, utilization of the available water and viable crop socially and environmentally. Livestock and fisheries, land, far development was part of the project too. To add, the board supported National Economic Stimulus Program on Food Production under irrigation for Kenya which supported production of maize and rice. New KCC was established to offer extension services by ensuring sustainable supply of quality raw milk at affordable prices as well, farmers networked and enhanced services. It also enhanced milk mobilization and improved milk quality through promotion on the use of aluminium can for milk transport, simple and quality milking parlours. The corporation recruits suppliers through farmer registrations as well as it set up more coolers and collection points to ensure close proximity to the suppliers. To add, it developed an effective transport network that ensured access to the various milk collection points and offered training directly and individual to farmers to increase quality and productivity. Furthermore, enhanced fodder production through increased land under legume production and tonnage of conserved silas. Cattle registration into NKCC herds and later Kenya stud book which lead to improved quality of dairy cows and enhance traceability was part on the board objective as it promoted cattle insurance cover, support development of regional breeding scheme and regional animal health scheme.
